A Modern, Thriving Society · 5 min read

Britain has a rich heritage of architecture, from medieval cathedrals to modern buildings. Inigo Jones, Sir Christopher Wren, Robert Adam and Sir Edwin Lutyens are among its great architects. Modern architects include Sir Norman Foster, Lord (Richard) Rogers and Dame Zaha Hadid.

Famous gardens were designed by Lancelot “Capability” Brown, who created natural-looking landscapes for country houses, and Gertrude Jekyll, who often worked with Lutyens.

Britain has produced many great designers, from Thomas Chippendale (18th-century furniture) to Clarice Cliff (Art Deco ceramics) and Sir Terence Conran (20th-century interior design). Fashion designers include Mary Quant, Alexander McQueen and Vivienne Westwood.
